We’re delighted to be working with ex-Olympian Alex Watson and his wife Beck, who have been running the award-winning Bush & Beach ride in Noosa for over twelve years alongside their incredible team of Australian Stock Horses. We caught up with them recently to find out a little more behind their operation.
How long have you been running your Bush & Beach ride?
And what was the background, history or reason for starting?
Transforming Alex’s Olympic riding background into an avenue to explore the scenic and diverse region of Southeast Queensland on horseback.
How many guest horses do you have?
Approximately 20 guest horses
Describe your herd of horses in four words.
Sturdy, level-headed, talented and beautiful.
What is the philosophy or ethos behind your 7 day Bush & Beach ride?
To explore Australia’s most scenic and best climactic region in style and comfort. We want our guests to see as much of Australia as possible during their time with us.
What do you love most about your job?
Bringing people and horses together to create rewarding experiences and lifelong memories.
What is the most challenging part?
We ride in a different location each day so moving the horses creates extra work…but it is soooo worth it!
Why should globetrotters sign up for your rides?
Our ride encompasses many diverse areas of Southeast Queensland – from cattle country to semi tropical rain forest to the stunning beach. Every day is different and unique with new challenges, landscapes and wildlife.
A tip that every globetrotter must know before signing up for the Bush & Beach ride.
It is important to be fit to ride for up to 4 hours at a time and to be confident cantering outside of an arena.
Finish this sentence – Don’t leave home without…
A sense of humour…and your pants!
What has been the most memorable or significant moment of your guiding career?
Alex: Meeting my wonderful wife (who is talented, intelligent, beautiful…etc.)
