globetrotting with a conscience – fashionABLE

In the spotlight

Thanks to one of my favourite blogs, La La Lovely, I found out about this clever, warm-your-soul project called FashionABLE. This non-profit particularly struck a cord because of its connection with helping and supporting women in Africa. I have a love affair with the Dark Continent which we visit every year to guide our horse riding holidays. So when I read about FashionABLE, I jumped at the chance to show my support and spread the love.

This is how it works, purchase a hand made Ethiopian scarf and you’re helping a African woman get gainful employment and leave behind a life of destitution. When you receive your scarf in the mail, it comes with a cardboard label with a hand written note from the African lady who designed and made the scarf. I purchased the scarf named after its maker Bezuayhu who has left behind the ugly world of prostitution and is proud to call herself a scarf maker.

I love wearing scarves whether its summer or winter and I have a colourful collection from my travels to Africa. I always wear them when on riding safaris to protect my face from the sun and dust, so this FashionABLE scarf is a perfect addition to my wardrobe with a lovely ‘Pay it Forward’ feeling attached to it.

Help me spread the word of FashionABLE by purchasing a scarf and telling your friends.

Here is their video story.
