Tanzanian Wilderness Safari, Tanzania

3-8 NightsStrong Intermediate to AdvancedFrom $6,550 USD?Tour costs $6,550 USD which is approximately $10,038 AUD

More than almost any other destination, Tanzania is THE land of safaris. That’s why the riding itineraries offered in this country have us singing {quite possibly – squealing} with excitement.

More than almost any other destination, Tanzania is THE land of safaris. Think: wildebeest stampeding across the plains, hippos jostling for space in muddy waterholes, elephants meandering along their seasonal migration routes, and lions padding around in search of prey. The sheer diversity of species and scenery is mind-boggling. That’s why THIS horseback safari destination has us singing {quite possibly – squealing} with excitement.

Our remarkable Tanzanian ride partners will have you riding in the shadows of Mt. Kilimanjaro – the tallest mountain on the African continent – cantering shoulder to shoulder with herds of zebra and antelope, creeping through acacia forests searching for elephants, marvelling at dense, monkey-filled rainforests, and getting to know the local Maasai. Each day is packed to the brim with beauty, awe, and grace – not to mention gratitude for the miracle that is life!

We have three unique itineraries on offer to suit a wide range of globetrotters. Whether you stay for three days or nine, trust us: you’ll WANT to stay forever!

No feeling can compare to galloping across the savannah astride a fast, surefooted steed, accompanied harmoniously by wildlife that, thanks to your equine partner, sees you as part of their world. The sense of belonging is profound, and it might just change your life.

So, what are you waiting for? Tanzania is calling!

  • The Serengeti Ride

Running from January through to March, this 9-day, 8-night adventure is perfectly timed to allow guests to tick off the Big Five and get right amongst gigantic herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle in the birthing season. During these months, the wildebeest give birth and raise their young on the famous short grass plains. This is one of the best times to see all manner of animals, from antelope and gazelle to lion, cheetah, elephant and rhino.

You’ll ride point-to-point through one of the most beautiful regions in all of Africa: Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge. Between the two, you’ll be exposed to extraordinary natural phenomena, spine-tinglingly  magnificent scenery, huge quantities of wildlife, and vital pieces of the puzzle of human evolution.

1 night lodge accommodation, 7 nights camping.

*For a detailed day-to-day itinerary, please download the ride fact sheet pdf at the end of this page.

  • Kilimanjaro Elephant Ride

This 8-day, 7-night safari begins at your hosts’ polo club, where you’ll spend the first night swimming in the pool and sipping sundowners. The following morning you’ll head to Arusha National Park, one of the most beautiful protected parks in East Africa. The scenery here changes dramatically, from open grassland and rainforest to savannah, salt pans and soda lakes. You’ll encounter elephant, buffalo, all the plains game, giraffe, leopard, and other rare species such as Suni, Red Duiker, the magnificent Hartlaub’s turaco, and many more!

Then on day 4, you’ll leave Arusha Park behind and head towards the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s the tallest mountain on the African continent and the world’s highest free-standing volcano (don’t worry, it’s currently dormant). While making your way towards its snow-capped summit, you’ll be able to track the biggest land-living mammal, the elephant, and enjoy many cultural interactions with the locals.

1 night lodge accommodation, 6 nights camping.

*For a detailed day-to-day itinerary, please download the ride fact sheet pdf at the end of this page.

  • Arusha National Park Ride

This 4-day, 3-night ride follows the same itinerary as the first 3 nights of the Kilimanjaro Elephant Ride, although there’s also an afternoon ride on day 1. You’ll explore every facet of Arusha National Park: the depths of the forest, the vast savannah, the lakes and waterfalls, and the crowning glory, Mt Meru. Arusha National Park was the home of the ‘Iron Lady’, Margarete Trappe, and you’ll be riding in this fearless horsewoman’s footprints.

This safari is perfect for those wanting to tick a lot of experiences and wildlife sightings off their wish list in a short amount of time. It’s also ideal for combining with one or two other Globetrotting rides as part of a grandiose African adventure.

1 night lodge accommodation, 2 nights camping.

For departure date options, please contact Globetrotting: info@globetrotting.com.au

  • Transfer Information

Round trip transfers from Kilimanjaro International Airport or the township of Arusha are included in the ride price on the first and last days of the itinerary only. Pick up is anytime on day 1 of the ride, and you’ll be transferred approximately 40mins to the Polo Safari Club. Should you arrive a day or two early, it is recommended you stay in the town of Arusha and you’ll be picked up from here on day one.

On the last day of the ride, departing flights can be booked anytime after 3pm.

*Please take note of the luggage restrictions on your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport, as some airlines have a maximum 15 or 20kgs luggage limit. All luggage should be packed in a soft bag.

What our valued Globetrotters say about The Kilimanjaro Elephant Ride

Kilimanjaro Elephant Safari, Tanzania - Globetrotting horse riding holidays

Robyn Strang

‘This ride surpassed all my expectations. My heart raced, my horse raced, and it was the most wonderful experience to ride with elephants in long green grass.  Then the scenery changed to clay pans and wide open spaces filled with giraffes, zebras, impalas and more elephants. With the setting sun behind us, we headed back for camp, horses’ heads down and strides long. We dismounted, the fabulous grooms took our horses, and I headed for a gin and tonic to breathe in the remarkable day we had shared, just to do it all again the next day. I have done 7 riding holidays and this was the best ride I have experienced! To anyone interested, just do it!’
