Feedback on the Glenorchy Back Country Ride

Glenorchy Back Country Ride, New Zealand

Repeat Globetrotter Deb Pippen recently returned from discovering the South Island of New Zealand on the Glenorchy Back Country Ride, and we were SO stoked with her feedback that we had to share it with you all! There’s no doubt about it: this ride is among our very best. The Glenorchy Back Country Ride, New Zealand - Globetrotting horse riding holidaysWere there any stand-out experiences (good or bad) with the accommodation and meals that you would like to mention?
Loved the best toilet view in the world 🙂
Loved the variety in accommodation, and that it ended in the luxury of Paradise.
The shearers quarters were comfortable and warm, and it was fun eating as a group in the cosy kitchen.
The campsite was beyond belief – I loved the bean bags on the verandah, and the tents were good. It was all part of the adventure eating outside in the freezing cold, and I had fingerless gloves (Antarctic supply) so I managed fine. We were all able to make use of the great beanies and neck warmers as meal attire.
– Paradise was exactly that. The school room final dinner was an extravaganza and great fun, and breakfast outside with the chooks was the prefect way to have our last meal.
I liked making our own lunches each day. The meals by Jess and Sean were great, and I think I put on weight.
The comfort packs were AMAZING and such a great idea. Everyone should have them! I have totally embraced the new-to-me concept of a hot water bottle in your sleeping bag.

Were you happy with the horse that you rode?
I loved my pocket rocket, Rusty. He has character and a cheeky personality but did listen when I asked him. We left them all for dust in the gallop!
The only thing I had trouble with was putting on the bridle because of Rusty’s recent bad experience, but Jess and Sean were always there to help in the end. I was very impressed with their technique for putting the bridle on, and their care and patience with him.

The Glenorchy Back Country Ride, New Zealand - Globetrotting horse riding holidaysDid you have a favourite day or experience while on your Globetrotting holiday?
It’s so hard to say because I think I enjoyed every moment – well maybe not so much the freezing rain, but that ended with arriving at the amazing campsite.
The first ride doing all the river crossings was great fun and a perfect introduction to the river crossings and incredible vistas that were, of course, there for the whole trip.
It was fantastic having all those Lord of the Rings moments.
The wonderful tracks and views. A little horse I adored. Fun people. The perfect holiday.
I did LOVE the gallop up the hill and other opportunities to go faster, as well as the small jumps and trotting in the lake…
Sharing chores and doing horse chores was also a great way to mix and bond for us all.

In respect to your guides, were you happy with their level of service, knowledge of the environment and hospitality?
Absolutely. They are champs. Took everything in their stride.

In terms of value-for-money, how would you rate this particular ride?
Spot on. Worth every cent.

We would LOVE a testimonial about your globetrotting experience to share on our social media channels.
I absolutely adored every moment of this trip, except possibly the few hours of riding in the rain, but even that was not bad and part of the adventure. An unbelievable, beautiful setting each day. I had a fabulous little steed in Rusty and I know everyone else was happy with their mount. We were looked after so well by our knowledgeable guides. I’d do it again if there were not so many other rides I have not done, so will recommend it in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much, Globetrotting. You should be so proud of what you do.
